New Center for Performing Arts and Student Life
Work has begun at the Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville, MD, on the new 24,000 SF Center for the Performing Arts and Student Life. Founded in 1882, the school is one of the oldest surviving places of Catholic worship in Baltimore County. JMT Architecture aesthetically designed the new center to be in the same Greek Revival style as the rest of the campus, which has brick buildings, tall Ionic columns, and metal roofs.
The new center will include a two-level auditorium with a 400 fixed, seated orchestra section and a mezzanine with 200 additional moveable seats. Also included will be instructional spaces for the orchestra, chorus, dance classes, scene shop, storage, and a gallery space for the students to showcase their masterpieces. The new performing arts center will enhance the school’s already vigorous arts program by providing more space and allowing all the activities on campus to be in one location.
JMT Architecture is providing architectural and interior design services for the $10-million center with an estimated completion date of December 2020.
